The Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw ruled that the National Broadcasting Council was inactive on the extension of the license for TVN Siedem – “Presserwis” learned.
The Provincial Administrative Court dealt with TVN SA’s complaint about the inactivity of the National Broadcasting Council on Tuesday, September 13, during a closed session. The court – as reported to “Presserwis” by the judicial information department – stated that “there was an inactivity of the authority, which was a gross violation of the law”.
KRRiT extended the TVN Siedem concert for over a year
The court also ordered the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council to pay TVN PLN 597 as reimbursement of the costs of the proceedings.
It took KRRiT over a year to extend the license for TVN Siedem. The application was submitted by the broadcaster on December 23, 2020, and the regulator’s decision was not made until February 18, 2022. The reconciliation process took so long because – as KRRiT explained – its members had doubts about the ownership structure of TVN, the station’s broadcaster.
TVN 7 immediately secured a Dutch license, but they could only broadcast on cable and satellite platforms, losing approx. 30 percent. viewers receiving the signal only terrestrial.
At the end of April 2022, the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw issued a similar verdict on the extension of the license for TVN 24. It also stated that the National Council had been inactive. The chairman of the National Broadcasting Council filed a cassation appeal.
