President Joe Biden to Poland: “You Know This Better Than Any Other Nation. You Know What Solidarity Means”
The President of the United States delivered a speech in Warsaw on Tuesday. He dedicated part of it to Poland and Poles. – Poland knows it, you know it. You know it better than any other nation. You know what solidarity means,” Joe Biden said. Addressing the Poles, he declared: “your generosity and readiness to open your hearts and homes – this is extraordinary.”
The U.S. President delivered a speech in the Kubicki Arcade in the gardens of the Royal Castle in Warsaw. “We see today once again what people in Poland and people across Europe saw decades ago. The appetites of an autocrat cannot be satisfied, they must be resisted. The autocrat understands only one word: no. You will not take my country, you will not take my freedom, you will not take my future,” stressed President Joe Biden.
“In a situation of such great trial, it is important what we stand for, and it is important who stands with us. Poland knows it. You know it. You know it better than any other nation. You know what solidarity means,” President Biden said.
Joe Biden stressed that despite partitions and invasions, the destruction of Warsaw, and despite communist rule, Poland “held on” just as the opposition in Belarus and the people of Moldova are holding on today. He stressed that the latter live in freedom and are on their way to EU membership.
As the U.S. leader noted, the countries of the European Union “have increased with unprecedented commitment their supplies to Ukraine. Not just through security assistance, not just economic, military and other assistance,” he said.
“See what has been achieved. Poland has taken in more than 1.5 million refugees during this war. May God reward you for this. Your generosity and willingness to open your hearts and homes – this is remarkable,” he stressed.
The US president added that Americans are also united, “All over my country, in big cities and small towns, Ukrainian flags are flying from American homes. Over the past year, Democrats and Republicans in Congress have united in defense of freedom. This is who Americans are and this is what Americans do,” he declared.
