We fight unpredictability. The most important thing in the future will be flexibility of the mind and the ability to adapt – said Kasia Kieli, head of Warner Bros. at the Impact’22 conference in Poznań. Discovery in Poland and TVN. The US Ambassador to Poland, Mark Brzezinski, spoke about the lessons we can learn from the COVID-19 pandemic and the crisis caused by the Russian attack on Ukraine.
As part of the Impact’22 conference, the “Redefining the World” panel was held on Wednesday with the participation of Kasia Kieli – President & Managing Director of Warner Bros. Discovery in Poland and CEO of TVN and Marek Brzezinski – the US ambassador to Poland.
Kieli: act fast, have a flexible mind
Kasia Kieli emphasized that we are “in a very troubled moment, troubled times for all of us”. – This is an unpredictable moment, we are worried about the world. For us as a media company, for business, it is also unpredictable. We had to deal with two years of COVID-19, now we have a war, she pointed out.
– We fight unpredictability. There are many changes taking place in the world. We survived somehow. We helped people affected by COVID, we help Ukrainians. As a company, we must represent such values - explained Kieli.
When asked how to prepare for the changes taking place in the world, she replied: – I tell my children and young people who join the organization that the most important thing in the future will be mental flexibility and adaptability. These are key virtues for young people.
– Act quickly, be flexible, have a flexible mind to go where the world, people and consumers will want you to go – she advised.
Kieli: Being part of a huge media group is a responsibility
Kieli also noted that “being part of a huge media group” such as Warner Bros. Discovery is “power, but also responsibility”.
– It is extremely important to be a source of information that can be trusted. Last year we saw how important it is for Poles. We saw it, we know how important media freedom is for us, for our American company, for Americans. We are grateful for the support we receive – she added.
Brzezinski: We learned two lessons from the pandemic and the crisis in Ukraine
Ambassador Brzezinski wondered “what lessons have we learned from the pandemic and the ongoing crisis in Ukraine”. – I can think of two. In a pandemic, we understood how to conduct online lessons, how to deal with diplomacy, how to conduct conversations without direct contact, how to do it virtually. We had to learn to be practical, he said.
– The second one, especially regarding the crisis in Ukraine, is to know who our friends are – added the ambassador. He stressed that “the crisis in Ukraine is an international problem”. – I am proud to be an ambassador to Poland, which helps humanely – emphasized Mark Brzezinski.
He pointed out that “the war in Ukraine has its roots in Eastern Europe, but it has an absolutely global scope”. – What we see in Mariupol, Bucza … At the moment, we have the ability to immediately talk about what is happening locally, we can show it to millions of people in the world thanks to smartphones. We can all witness this, said the ambassador.
– We Americans see only one ending – the displacement of the Russians by the Ukrainians and President Zelensky. We are doing everything we can to stand shoulder to shoulder with Polish brothers and sisters and provide Ukraine with everything it needs to do this, he emphasized.
– Economically we want a world of prosperity for our children. What happened has the potential to destabilize an entire region or an entire continent. We are working intensively with European partners to make sure that something like this does not happen – he added.
