“I witnessed the outcome of mindless cruelty”
During his trip to Ukraine, Rau also visited the town of Bucha, which was heavily damaged by the Russian forces. He then spoke with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dymtro Kuleba. At a joint press conference after the discussion, he said he would like “send one very simple message”. “We are united in solidarity and endless support for the whole nation of Ukraine,” Rau stressed.
He underscored that the Russian Federation had declared an unprovoked, unfair and ruthless war against Ukraine. “I have just visited Bucha and I have witnessed the outcome of mindless cruelty, which is impossible to describe … What we have seen and heard in Bucha, I would call a quiet cry of a downtrodden man,” Polish minister said.
In his view, names of towns like Bucha, Irpin, Hostomel or Borodyanka will go down in history as war crime scenes. “War crimes committed by Russian forces in Ukraine will not be forgotten, and those responsible should be brought to justice. The international community has a duty to all it takes to hold all those guilty of these heinous crimes accountable,” Rau added.
“FM @RauZbigniew, FM @DmytroKuleba and @HelgaSchmid_SG discussed the continuation of @ OSCE’s engagement in Ukraine on its path to security and stability. The OSCE has operated in for nearly three decades and has an important role in addressing challenges ahead.”
Later that day Rau also met with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
“Polish FM @RauZbigniew during the meeting with Ukrainian President @ZelenskyyUa conveyed a message of solidarity and unwavering support to all people of Ukraine facing the unprovoked and devastating Russian aggression which breaches fundamental @OSCE principles and commitments,” Polish OSCE Chairmanship 2022 said in another tweet.
