Poland will buy additional F-35 fighter jets. “These are the best fighter jets in the world,” Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk emphasized on Tok FM radio. He also noted that Poland has spent tens of billions of dollars in the US and will spend “at least twice as much” in the coming years, making Poland a strategic partner of the United States.
Poland has ordered 32 F-35 aircraft . The official ceremony of accepting the first fighters into the Polish Armed Forces took place in June of this year. Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said at the time that another 11 aircraft would be delivered to the Łask base in the coming months, 12 in 2027, and the remaining aircraft in the following years. The final delivery is scheduled for 2029.
The contract, signed in 2020, is worth $4.6 billion . However, these will not be the only F-35 fighters, as confirmed by Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk on Tok FM radio.
Poland will order more F-35 fighters
The politician appeared on the radio on Thursday, August 13. During the broadcast, Cezary Tomczyk confirmed that Poland plans to purchase additional F-35 fighter jets .
“We have such a plan (…),” confirmed the Deputy Minister of National Defense. “We want to buy more F-35 fighter jets. Not because it’s a political issue, but because they are, without a doubt, the best fighter jets in the world,” said the guest on Poranka Tok FM.
In previous statements, Tomczyk declared that Poland would like to acquire two additional squadrons of F-35 fighters by 2039, a plan already included in strategic documents. The acquisition of another 32 fighters is planned, bringing Poland’s total to 64 such aircraft.
In July of this year, the Deputy Minister of National Defense announced that Poland had already spent $65 billion in the United States on equipment purchases and maintenance facilities. In a Thursday broadcast, Cezary Tomczyk declared that in the coming years, Poland will spend “at least twice that amount” in the United States.
“We must reckon with the fact that Poland is no longer simply a client. It is a strategic partner, even from the perspective of a superpower like the United States,” the politician said.
It’s worth noting that the aircraft factory in Dęblin is also set to host Europe’s only Abrams tank engine servicing center. It will be jointly established by Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 1 SA (WZL-1) and the American company Honeywell. The investment cost is estimated at approximately PLN 300 million.
