On October 20, 2025, Marta Cienkowska, Minister of Culture and National Heritage, gave an interview on RMF FM radio. During the program “Afternoon Talk,” hosted by Grzegorz Sroczyński, she revealed that the results of the audits of media companies, which she ordered almost immediately after taking office, would be presented by the end of the month. However, it turns out she has much more planned for the near future.
Cienkowska opens up about the media law. She reveals how the new president of TVP will be selected.
It’s no secret that a few months ago, the Ministry of Culture began work on a new media law. Its primary goal is to depoliticize public media, and consequently, regain audience trust. “I would very much like to present our full vision of both the competition system and media financing at a press conference, where we will show what this law will look like comprehensively, and this will happen by the end of October,” Cienkowska stated.
At the same time, she emphasized that there are many other pressing issues, one of which is ensuring basic benefits for artists. “The state should address the gap it hasn’t addressed in 25 years,” she said, adding that this is one of the few groups “invisible to the insurance system.” She also touched on a topic that worries many Poles: the election of the new president of TVP . Cienkowska declared that this time, he will be chosen through a transparent competition, but details will remain to be seen.
What changes does the new media law propose? A revolution is brewing not only at the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT).
Although the new media law hasn’t yet come into force, its announcements include several important points. According to the Wirtualne Media portal, the main goal is to eliminate the National Media Council and reduce the number of public channels. However, that’s not all. According to the agreement , the National Broadcasting Council would consist of nine members instead of the five it currently has.
They would be responsible for electing the boards of public media, which, in addition to TVP, also include Polish Radio and the Polish Press Agency. This would be done through transparent competitions, with the proceedings broadcast live. Furthermore, CEOs of companies would not be allowed to simultaneously serve as editors-in-chief.
