Thomas Rose, nominated for the position of U.S. Ambassador to Poland, has completed his hearing before a Senate committee. “Poland is not only an ally, but also family,” he said in an interview with TVN’s “Fakty” correspondent Marcin Wrona. He also emphasized his willingness to cooperate with the Polish government and both sides of the political scene in Poland.

Thomas Rose appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday. The Senate must confirm his nomination as U.S. ambassador to Warsaw. In his remarks, the conservative columnist spoke highly of Poland, portraying it as an exemplary American ally. The American emphasized that “Poland was not a perpetrator of the Holocaust, but its victim.”
As Rose stated, Poland “is not just an ally, but family.”
In an interview with TVN’s “Fakty” correspondent in the US, Marcin Wrona, Rose declared that he would cooperate with both sides of the political scene in Poland. “My goal is to promote, if I’m lucky and approved, American interests and protect them,” he said.
“Of course, we have excellent relations with the current government, and excellent relations with the previous government under Morawiecki,” the politician stated. “We also get along very well with Prime Minister Tusk, and the same goes for Foreign Minister Sikorski,” he added.
“If I’m confirmed, I’ll have the easiest job of anyone in the American diplomatic corps,” said Thomas Rose.
Thomas Rose on the “American Gaze”
Earlier this year, Thomas Rose expressed outrage via X that Poland could arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visited Auschwitz on the anniversary of the liberation of the former German extermination camp. Netanyahu was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court at the time.
Now Rose declared that his words represented the “American perspective” on Netanyahu.
“The problem was that if this happened, it would seriously damage Poland’s reputation. (…) Someone mentioned that if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended the ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp, the Polish authorities in Auschwitz would detain him. Speaking as an ordinary citizen, I must admit that in situations where the Israeli Prime Minister was arrested by the Polish authorities in Auschwitz, this decision would be terrible and would seriously damage Polish-American relations,” Rose said.
“I would have made the same comment, the same tweet, regardless of who the prime minister was, but it didn’t happen. That’s the most important thing, it didn’t happen,” he added.
Netanyahu ultimately did not come to Poland for the commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. In April, the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court in The Hague overturned a lower court’s November 2024 decision regarding the arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister and former Defense Minister Yo’av Gallant.
Thomas Rose sees Poland as an exemplary US ally
“My biggest challenge is strengthening our relationship with your great country and people,” Rose continued. “Poland can be treated in the United States as our 52nd state, really. Oops! After Canada , of course,” he joked.
“We have a truly wonderful relationship with Poland and tremendous respect for your culture, your nation, your history, your sovereignty, and your aggressive approach to defending your interests,” the American said. “Poland is a wonderful ally,” he continued.
Asked whether American soldiers would remain in Poland in the same numbers as they are now, Rose replied that the decision on this matter would be made “in consultation with our Polish allies, NATO, and our Department of Defense.”
“It will be in our best interest to ensure that our resources are properly deployed to where they are most needed and most effective,” he explained. “No decisions will be made without the active participation of our Polish partner,” he assured.
No senators objected to Rose
Thomas Rose spoke extensively at a hearing on Capitol Hill about energy security and American investments in Poland in this sector. “President Trump is making enormous efforts to ensure that our rich energy resources are further developed. To ensure a constant, reliable source of safe, clean energy for Poland and our European partners,” he explained.
“You spend billions of dollars on port facilities just to accommodate American liquefied natural gas. Poland has done a spectacular job dealing with the energy issue,” Rose emphasized. He added that if he is confirmed as ambassador, he will look forward to coming to Poland.
In the vast majority of cases, Senate confirmation of a nomination is a formality, and no senator has openly opposed Rose’s nomination. Rose and his nominees could win the support of the Foreign Relations Committee as early as Wednesday. A vote by the full Senate will take place at a later date.
Thomas Rose is a right-wing columnist, former advisor to Vice President Mike Pence, and editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post. He also hosted a right-wing talk show for years with former Republican presidential candidate Gary Bauer.
