“Yesterday, together with my wife, Marta, I had the opportunity to meet with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump ,” the president said at the briefing. He added that the meeting referred to President Donald Trump’s speech at the UN . “I told the president that it was a great speech, ” Karol Nawrocki added.
President Donald Trump addressed the situation in Poland and Central Europe. He told me that the United States stands with Poland and is very pleased with our deep, important, and values-based relationship between the United States and Poland. It was a very pleasant meeting , the President of Poland said.
Journalists also questioned Nawrocki about Trump’s Tuesday tweet, in which he sharply criticized Russia and stated that Ukraine could regain all of its territory. The Polish president stated that this is not a breakthrough in Trump’s attitude toward the conflict initiated by Russia. ” I am in constant contact with President Donald Trump, so I don’t consider this a radical change at the heart of President Donald Trump, but a public change ,” he stated.
As Nawrocki added, he repeatedly spoke to Trump about the “essence of the Russian Federation.”
For us, this is obviously good news, and maintaining, or perhaps, I believe, increasing the component of American troops in Poland is good news for the entire Central European region, as confirmed by my colleagues from the Baltic states , said Nawrocki.
Nawrocki was also asked about other comments made by Trump. On Tuesday, the US president responded affirmatively to a question about whether NATO countries should shoot down Russian planes violating their airspace.
If President Donald Trump makes such declarations, it means that he is aware of how important independence and borders are for countries such as Poland and other Central European countries , he added.
When asked if there was a fear that Trump’s words would provoke Russia, Nawrocki stated that “a person who is concerned about how the Polish army will react in the context of violating our borders cannot be the president of Poland.”
