On February 26, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski, will deliver an exposé in the Sejm (lower house of parliament) devoted to Poland’s foreign policy priorities. In his address, he is expected to discuss the most important diplomatic goals for the coming year, including security, relations within the EU, and relations with Ukraine.

The speech was originally scheduled for February 11, but the date was changed because President Karol Nawrocki convened a meeting of the National Security Council that day.

Priorities of the Ministry of Diplomacy

Sikorski previously announced on X that he would present detailed goals and tasks of Polish foreign policy for this year in his exposé. He outlined the most important directions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ activities: “An influential Poland in a strong EU,” “A secure Poland,” “Foreign policy in the service of Poland’s economic development,” “A globally active and solidary Poland,” and building a professional foreign service as a condition for effectively pursuing the state’s interests.

International challenges

Last December, in an interview on the Didaskalia YouTube channel, the minister indicated that one of the main topics of his speech would be the changing definition of the Western alliance . He noted that some Poles, in his opinion, are succumbing to anti-European ideology, “meaning the illusion that there is a world in which one can have all the privileges of European Union membership and none of the resulting obligations.”

Radosław Sikorski also assessed that the international economic situation around Poland is worsening rather than improving, which makes foreign policy more difficult and makes unity in this area particularly important.

Relations with Ukraine

The second key issue he announced he intends to discuss in more detail is relations with Ukraine . The Foreign Minister emphasized that Ukraine remains a “functional buffer against Russian imperialism ,” which gives these relations strategic importance for Poland’s security .
