McCaul, Chabot, Fitzpatrick, and Pfluger Call on Poland to Reverse Course on Concerning Legislation

Press Release | Foreign Affairs Committee

Washington, D.C.- House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX), Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX) have released the following statement expressing their deep concerns about legislation that passed in Poland’s parliament yesterday which would prevent victims and their families from receiving restitution for property seized during the Holocaust and communist era, and draft legislation that would undermine media freedom and strip a U.S.-owned independent news station of its broadcast license in Poland.

“Poland is a critical NATO ally and our robust bilateral relations bolster transatlantic security and mutual prosperity. As we face the collective threat posed by Russian aggression and CCP malign influence, our close cooperation is needed now more than ever. This is particularly true in the fight to stop the Russian malign influence Nord Stream 2 pipeline project. Unfortunately, these pieces of legislation are driving us apart, and the draft media legislation undermines U.S. investments in Poland as well as is inconsistent with the democratic principles that are the basis of our strong bond. We therefore urge the Polish government to reverse course, and we urge President Duda not to sign either of these bills into law in their current form.”
