On this day 25 years ago, TVN television station was launched. The station has prepared special editions of its programs.

Dzień dobry TVN, Fakty, and Milionerzy will feature special guests and footage about the beginnings of the station. Hosts of Dzień dobry TVN will take part in a quiz show to test their knowledge of TVN. After that, Ewa Drzyzga, Olivier Janiak, and Monika Olejnik will tell the viewers how their work at the station has changed over time. Fakty will feature a special birthday setting and footage that sums up 25 years of the program. Małgorzata Rozenek-Majdan and Krzysztof Skórzyński, as well as Michel Moran and Tomasz Jakubiak, will compete in the birthday edition of Milionerzy.

TVN was founded by Mariusz Walter and Jan Wejchert. From 1998 to mid-2022, Edward Miszczak was the Programming Director of the television station.

“I think that TVN’s success was the result of the extraordinary passion, courage, and willingness to take risks. These features have described our station to this day,” told Katarzyna Kieli, President and Managing Director of Warner Bros. Discovery in Poland and TVN’s CEO. “Its founders created a completely new quality on the Polish market: the first reality show, the first daytime series, or the first news service competitive with the public television monopoly,” says Kieli.

In 1999, the Milionerzy game show debuted on TVN. The station was the first to air reality shows, such as Agent and Big Brother. “It was certainly the show that made TVN major,” Edward Miszczak said when talking about Big Brother.

In the following years, TVN aired popular programmes, such as Taniec z gwiazdami, Kuchenne rewolucje, Mam talent and MasterChef, as well as TV shows such as Kasia i Tomek, Magda M., Niania or Prawo Agaty.

From its beginnings, besides entertainment television formats, TVN has bet on journalism, be it news, intervention, or investigative journalism. Fakty revolutionized news programs in Poland. “The revolution was based on the fact that it was the publisher and the anchor who were responsible for the news program, as the anchor co-decided what footage would be prepared, who would prepare it, and what it would look like,” explains Grzegorz Kajdanowicz. Edward Miszczak for Press: “TVN is the only television network in Poland which is active in the field of investigative journalism.”

TVN (and TVN 24) journalists received Grand Press awards on numerous occasions (for reports, investigative journalism, news, or specialist journalism). The awarded journalists include Marcin Gutowski, Bertold Kittel, Wojciech Bojanowski, Szymon Jadczak, and Grzegorz Głuszak. Ten journalists from the TVN Group were named Journalists of the Year: Monika Olejnik, Tomasz Lis, Bogdan Rymanowski, Justyna Pochanke, Marcin Pawłowski, Tomasz Sekielski, Andrzej Morozowski, Konrad Piasecki, Bertold Kittel, and Wojciech Bojanowski.

TVN became the most popular television station watched by the so-called commercial group of viewers, i.e. viewers aged 16-49 (in 2021, the station had 9.47% of the share in the television audience aged 16-49). Today, Fakty is the most popular news program, and TVN’s most popular programs include Magda Gessler’s Kuchenne rewolucje and Mam talent.

Currently, TVN is part of the Warner Bros. Discovery group.
