The Entrepreneurship Council strongly protests against the suspension of the decision to extend the license for the TVN7 channel. In the issued statement, we read, inter alia, that “we are dealing here with deliberate actions to the detriment of the enterprise, openly undermining the security of economic transactions and increasingly weakening the position of Poland in the eyes of domestic and foreign investors”.

The National Broadcasting Council once again failed to settle the issue of extending the license for TVN7 on Thursday . The station applied for this more than a year ago, and the broadcaster meets all the conditions.

Viewers can express their solidarity with the channel by asking the National Broadcasting Council for an immediate license.

The Entrepreneurship Council speaks about the license for TVN7

The Entrepreneurship Council points out that the company applied for the extension of TVN7’s license more than a year ago and has not yet received a decision.

“We do not even know the reasons for the lack of it. The many-month delay is another attempt to disrupt the operation of the American Discovery Group, the owner of TVN. This is happening when an amendment to the Broadcasting Act, called ‘Lex TVN’, was vetoed by the President of the Republic of Poland and binding the concession regulations have not changed in any way, “we read in the organization’s position.

Entrepreneurs point out that the TVN7 channel has been operating in Poland for 20 years and there are no legal grounds to deprive it of its license.

“The actions of the National Broadcasting Council are deliberate discrimination against a legally operating enterprise, as well as a flagrant overstepping of powers by the state authority. We would like to remind you: Poland is bound by trade agreements with the US. Refusal to reconcile will lead to high damages, for which the State Treasury and, consequently, all Polish taxpayers will pay” – they write business representatives.

The Entrepreneurship Council is a forum for cooperation between representatives of the largest organizations representing entrepreneurs and employers in Poland. Originally established on November 17, 2003, it was reactivated on March 24, 2020 in order to save the Polish economy threatened by a pandemic and recession.

Members of the Entrepreneurship Council are: ABSL, Business Center Club, Federation of Polish Entrepreneurs, Lewiatan Confederation, Polish Chamber of Commerce, Polish Business Council, Employers of the Republic of Poland, Polish Bank Association, Polish Craft Association.

License for TVN7

The current license for TVN7 expires on February 25, 2022. An application to the National Broadcasting Council for its extension for another 10 years was submitted by TVN Grupa Discovery on December 23, 2020. The station has been waiting for over a year for the Council’s decision. As in the case of TVN24 – whose license was renewed after 18 months of waiting – there are no reasons to justify such a huge delay.

TVN7 is one of the largest, most recognizable and liked stations in Poland, operating continuously since 2002. Since then, the channel has developed dynamically and is currently ranked 4th among the most watched stations in the commercial group 16-49. Siódemka is a channel with a terrestrial, satellite and cable license. Almost 30 percent of viewers watch it on terrestrial television, which is completely free.

The content produced by TVN7 is local in nature. In 2021, as many as 8 of the TOP10 most popular programs of the station were Polish productions. Programs produced in Poland cover approximately 70 percent of Siódemka’s total airtime. The channel supports Polish companies and invests in Poland, promotes Polish films through the Polish Mondays series. Every year, 1.5 percent of the TVN Discovery group’s revenue is transferred to the Polish Film Institute, supporting Polish cinematography.

Due to the prolonged reconciliation process of TVN7, an information campaign was launched. In the spot, the stars of the station invite you to have fun together, and also remind you that the largest entertainment channel in Poland may end its broadcasting soon.
