What is happening in Ukraine is absolutely terrifying. The bombing of children’s hospitals, the bombing of humanitarian corridors, goes far beyond the Geneva Convention. We are talking about war crimes here, said American Congressman Michael McCaul in an interview for TVN24. – Putin can win the battle, but he will not win the war. We will not allow evil to win, said Gregory Meeks, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives.

For 11 days, Ukraine has been defending itself against the still invading Russian troops. The missiles fall on military targets, but also on civilian objects. There is a humanitarian crisis going on across our eastern border.

On Sunday, on TVN24, American congressmen and members of the House of Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives – Democrat Gregory Meeks and Republican Michael McCaul talked with Piotr Kraśka about the situation in Ukraine. They are both part of the delegation that met refugees and people helping them in Poland and Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian politicians and American soldiers transferred to Europe to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.

Meeks: We will not allow evil to win

– Putin can win the battle, but he will not win the war. We will not allow evil to win, said Meeks.

It was for this reason, he added, that 140 UN countries voted against Russia. – That is why the Polish government and the Polish nation have made a decisive stand. This is why NATO has become more decisively united than ever before. That is why the Democrats and Republicans are standing together today to prevent Putin’s victory, said the chairman of the Congress’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

The politician also referred to the words of President Joe Biden, who recently stated that the US will defend every inch of NATO territory. – We know that we have the responsibility enshrined in Article 5 to defend all NATO allies. This is our task, our responsibility. We will fulfill this obligation – he assured.

Meeks pointed out that 10,000 American soldiers are currently stationed in Poland. – We should strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, countries such as Poland, to protect them from a retaliatory strike by Putin – said the congressman.

As he added, the leader of Russia “miscalculated when it comes to Ukraine”. – When we launch the fifth article, it is not only Poland, the whole world will be against it. That would be a serious mistake on his part, said the Democrat. He assured the Poles of the “great cooperation” between the American army and the Polish army.

– We do not want to attack, we want to defend ourselves against Putin’s attack – emphasized Meeks.

McCaul: What the Russians are doing goes beyond the Geneva Convention

“The issue of humanitarian aid is one thing, but every time we talk to Ukrainian officials, we hear: We need weapons,” said McCaul. – We have a gun, we can help. Our NATO allies can deliver these weapons to Ukraine, he assured.

The congressman said that in the US it was believed that the Russian invasion would be over in three days. – Our experts said so. But the resistance of the Ukrainians was inspiring. It’s the tenth day of the war, and they are still defending themselves, he remarked admiringly. As he added, “the will of the Ukrainian people will prevail against the Russian army.”

McCaul: We can’t sit with our arms folded

McCaul assessed that “the world and NATO have never been so united.” – Looking at mothers and children (from Ukraine – ed.), Almost all members of our delegation had tears in their eyes – confessed the congressman. He compared the Russian invasion of Ukraine to Hitler’s attack on Poland.

“The question is what we can do to stop this slaughter.” This is a moral question, said the Republican.
