“You Have to Be as Hot as a Red-Hot Sword.” in an Election Year, Pis Takes Over the Media
The ruling camp has never hidden that it does not feel too comfortable with free media. Especially with those who were effectively able to keep an eye on the government, revealing its dirty tricks and scandals, and at the same time reaching mass reach, also reaching potential PiS voters.
Everything indicates that in the election year, the party in power does not plan to soften relations with the free media but even intends to target them. This could have been expected already when, in October last year, Maciej Świrski became the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council – an activist close to PiS, the founder of the well-known from the campaign against the film “Ida” by Redoubt of Good Name.
Świrski has always been considered a representative of the United Right faction, which is confrontational towards liberal institutions. He said about himself in 2010: “I am a Taliban because, like real Taliban, I am attached to my faith and tradition, the foundation of Polish civilization. […] You have to be hot as a red-hot sword.”
