Statement of the Council of Press Club Polska on the draft amendment of the National Broadcasting Act

Warsaw, July 8, 2021

The proposed amendment of the National Broadcasting Act, in reality aimed at one broadcaster – TVN, is another example of the instrumental treatment of law by politicians, intended to promote their own interests. Such conduct has nothing to do with acting in favor of the public good.

“An initiative of a group of deputies” is nothing else that another attack on independent media, the function of which is keeping tabs on the actions of the authorities. Any authorities. At the same time, it successfully proves that independent media are properly serving this function.

Every attempt to weaken or get rid of media independent from the authorities constitutes activity hostile towards citizens. It violates freedom of the press and the right to obtain and disseminate information, directly specified in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland.

On behalf of the Council of Press Club Polska,
